In a small town known as “City Beautiful,” sandwiched between a beauty supply and a jewelry store, is a little gem that we locals absolutely love. If you’re looking for Thai food then you’ve found it at Lotus Garden. Located in the heart of Coral Gables, Lotus Garden is that taste of authentic in an unexpected place. The restaurant was voted best Thai food in 2011 by Miami New Times and who knows better than locals? Around the World in 80 Plates on Bravo TV showcased the eight best plates from ten major cities and guess who was nominated for the best Seafood Curry? You guessed it, Lotus Garden. This honor speaks for itself.
Whether you’re looking for a small meal or a larger portion the owners will make what you want how you want. “No” is not in their vocabulary; their goal is to please the customer. The lunch specials are amazing, including a soup or salad and an entrée. The salad at first seems plain, but what makes it stand out is the peanut dressing; it’s absolutely perfect or, if you’d prefer, try the ginger dressing, equally delicious. The restaurant does not have a full bar, but serves wine and beer.
The Pad Thai here is delectable and the portion more than enough for two people to share but you won’t want to share it; it’s that good. The fried rice, which can be prepared with shrimp, beef, chicken, or tofu, is the best I have tried yet. Another favorite dish is the Volcano Chicken served on a bed of bright and crisp vegetables with enough of a spicy kick to the sauce to make your taste buds dance, not too overpowering or saucy.
Nothing is over fired or overcooked and the fresh taste of each ingredient comes through. The restaurant is also vegan friendly, serving a variety of dishes including volcano tofu and vegetable curry. A meal would not be complete without dessert. Don’t miss THE BEST Thai donuts EVER, not greasy, just yummy fluffy goodness served with powdered sugar and a sweet dipping sauce.
Other restaurants may claim to be authentic, but Lotus Garden is the real deal. The restaurant is family owned and has consistently delivered fresh and delicious Thai food to Miami, Coral Gables and beyond for over 10 years.
If you’re in South Florida and your taste buds are itching to taste some fresh, delicious, spicy or sweet Thai food please stop in to Lotus Garden and tell them Maitte sent you. You won’t be disappointed.
Pros: Fast, friendly service. The owner will prepare the meal you want how you want it even if its not on the menu. The place is a family owned long-standing establishment with a tremendous following. Fresh food at reasonable prices in a beautiful neighborhood.
Cons: Small with only about 15 tables (but the wait is worth it.) Street parking is available but there’s always parking right behind in the covered garage and the restaurant validates your ticket.
