There is no shortage of cupcake shops in the neighborhoods across New York City. Tu-Lu’s is no exception to the expectation of yummy, sweet and icing toped goodness New Yorkers have come to find comfort in. However, these bite size (mini cupcakes) and their average size companions have a little edge on the competition. They are an indulgence for many New Yorkers who chose or who must follow a gluten free diet.
Gluten free means there are no wheat, rye, barley or other grain related products. Gluten is the protein part of grains. Most baked goods contain gluten. But this bakery has gone to the extreme to offer those who cannot process this protein and offered up some tasty treats for those who just want to feel better about having something sweet.
Started by a young woman named Tully (above) at the end of last year; she strives to give herself and others like her with a gluten intolerance a little something special. Also on offer at the bakery are brownies, cookies (vegan ones as well), muffins, cakes on order and panini on gluten free bread!
Tu-Lu’s products can also be found at several other retailers around the city, visit the website for a listing.
