Catch It! Half-Marathon Fever

Half-marathon season is in full swing! It officially began with the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Manhattan Half in January but the more exciting race courses are on the horizon and continue almost every month until the end of the summer! A few of the upcoming races are already closed; however, there’s still time to train for and run a NYC-based half because the Summer and Fall half-marathons haven’t even opened yet to registrants. (Coming out to cheer for the runners is a great way to participate in the races, too.) Below is information on all upcoming half-marathons in the NYC area for your spectating and/or running pleasure!

The newer half-marathon, the New York City Half, is March 20, 2011 and is popular because it leaves Central Park after 6 miles and continues through Times Square to Battery Park via the West Side Highway.

The MORE Magazine Women’s Half will take place in Central Park on April 3, 2011 and is a fun way to celebrate women in running.

The first half of the half-marathon series to leave Manhattan is the ever-popular Brooklyn Half on May 21, 2011.

Registration hasn’t opened up yet for the Queens Half (7/30/11), Bronx Half (8/28/11), Grete’s Great Gallop (10/1/11) and the Staten Island Half (10/9/11) but stay tuned to www.nyrr.org for application and race information. It takes approximately 2 months to train for a half-marathon so there still is plenty of time to prepare for one (or more) of the above races!
