Typically when we think of Valentine’s Day, the images of flowers, chocolate and jewelry come to mind. Sure those are very nice things and many of us love to receive them. But right now, times are hard. People have to focus on budgeting money and cutting back on spending. I have good news. Valentine’s Day does not have to be an extravagant occasion. It’s possible to have a wonderful day and not have to spend a fortune.
Put your creativity to use. Imaginative gifts can actually be far more romantic than the typical store bought present.
Have you ever considered writing a poem for your loved one? You don’t have to be Shakespeare. Write something from the heart. Put your feelings on paper and express them to your partner. If the love is truly there, then it shouldn’t be too difficult to express it through a heartfelt verse or two.
Try cooking a meal for that special person. Look up some recipes online or in a cookbook and prepare a meal complete with candlelight, soft music and a lot of romance. You’ll save money by cooking at home and can tailor the meal to your loved ones’ liking.

Give your significant other a full body massage. You can buy scented massage oils at any pharmacy for just a few dollars. Nothing could be more romantic than gently caressing the body of your partner. It will bring the two of you closer physically, mentally and spiritually. Along these lines, consider giving your partner a bubble bath and a back scrub with some lovely fragranced bubble bath. You can place flower petals in the water to add extra fragrance.
Spend some quality time together, watching a favorite DVD (maybe a love story) or listening to love songs. It’s extremely romantic just to take time out of your busy schedule and relax together. Add some favorite snacks to the mix and enjoy the evening in each other’s arms.
Valentines Day is an opportunity that many use to express love and affection. But honestly, why wait until February 14th to express those feelings? If you show your love for your partner all year long, then the expectations may not be so high for an extravagant gift on Valentine’s Day. Utilize Valentine’s Day to spend time together and most of all, have fun!
