S‘mores—Not Just for Campfires Anymore

classics180_hzh8-512x251

Who doesn’t love s’mores, a brilliant combination of graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate that brings back memories of summer nights around a campfire. According to Wikipedia, no one really knows who invented s’mores, although the first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the Girl Scouts handbook from 1927. Andi Jompole is working to update this favorite with her company, The Perfect Present: Home of S’more Smoochie. “They make people happy,” she said. “When I go to networking events and people ask me what I do, I take one out and they love it.”

That love can be seen on Jompole’s website in the rapturous faces of those enjoying her S’more Smoochies. Jompole’s treats improve on the campfire version by adding different toppings, like peanuts and coconut, as well as sprinkles that can be color coordinated with a customer’s event. Having a baby shower? Jompole can add pastel sprinkles to each s’more, place it in a cellophane bag tied with ribbon, even adding a rattle. She has filled many orders for corporations, sealing the cellophane packet with a sticker bearing a company logo.

Responding to customer demand, Jompole has launched a party business for both adults and children. For example, brides may get friends together for a champagne party where they can enjoy s’mores and make and package the treats as wedding favors. For children, Jompole will stage an “Arts and Crafts You Can Eat,” party where she will show children how to make s’mores. She supplies all the ingredients, plus a wide variety of edible toppings. A donation to the Food Bank of New York will be made from Jompole’s proceeds of each party.

Jompole, who holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Syracuse University, has worked for many textile companies and fashion designers, the last being Tommy Hilfiger. This venture brings together her love of a childhood dessert, her artistic talent and creativity, and her desire to be an entrepreneur. S’mores have been around for a long time, and Jompole hopes her company will benefit from that nostalgia.
