The New York Press Club honored its own at the Water Club on Monday evening, June 11, recognizing excellence in writing by the city’s news outlets. This year, Woman Around Town nabbed four awards, the third successive year the website has been singled out for its outstanding writing. For the second year in a row, Woman Around Town’s Editor Charlene Giannetti received the Rev. Mychal Judge Heart of New York Award, this time for her profile of Deborah Koenigsberger, founder of the non profit Hearts of Gold that helps homeless women and their families. Deborah attended the dinner to share in the honor. Charlene also won an award in the Sports News category for her story, “Mickey Mantle—Reluctant Hero.”

Alix Cohen was recognized for the third year, this time in the Entertainment News category for her story, “Marching to Save Mother Earth,” a review of a Taylor Mac production at LaMama Theater.

For the second year running, Merry Sheils won for her financial reporting, this year for her three-part series on Hedge Funds.
Press Club President Larry Seary (above) presented the awards to the winners which included writers from newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and the internet. The contest attracted more than 400 submissions.
