This Wednesday, September 21st, Design for You Events will be hosting Astoria’s first Contemporary Art Affair at Veslo Café.  Art ALIVE Astoria will present a select group of eleven local artists to showcase their talent in a fun and interactive setting while creating public awareness of the talent that now resides in the neighborhood.

On this special night, guests will be able to meet the artists, purchase pieces to start or add to their current collections, and socialize at one of Astoria’s newest venues.  In addition, seven local designers will be selling their handmade items in a mini-trunk show area.  All attendees are welcome to try a complimentary event cocktail by Reve Vodka.  For those that RSVP, upon checking in they will be handed a free Art ALIVE Astoria tote bag in celebration of the evening.  Sponsors supporting the event include Design for You Events, KrisTEES Boutique (see Woman Around Town’s previous article about KrisTEES), Showroom by C , local artist Mieko Anekawa, Reve Vodka, and Veslo Café and Bar.

Design for You Events is a newly created company focusing on bringing creative venues dedicated to fashion and the arts to Astoria and Long Island City. Organized by entrepreneurs Kristie Foster, owner of KrisTEES Boutique, and Cynthia Puhalovic, former owner of Candy Plum boutique and current owner of Showroom By C, Design for You is an important platform to help other new entrepreneurs shine, starting first within the local community.  Some of their previous events include indie designer markets such as Holiday Daze and Summer Daze held annually since 2009, Starry Night Holiday Market, Sugar & Spice Holiday Market, and Fashion Astoria Style runway shows.
