Two of my favorite past times are music and giving back to the community! In two weeks you and I will have the chance to enjoy great music while supporting this country’s veterans! On September 30 we can hear soul touching music from D.C.-based Alt Country band, The Great Unknowns while supporting CAUSE, a non-profit which provides support to wounded veterans.
The Great Unknowns are in the process of reinventing themselves one show at a time in New York, Washington and beyond. They have quite a unique sound classifying themselves as alternative country. They gained some national success about five years ago by signing with the Daemon music label, putting out a well received album and touring with the Indigo Girls. However, as sure as the sun rises, then be certain that life is going to happen.
They took a five year hiatus and pursued careers, marriages and other facets of life. The band’s talented songwriter, Becky Warren experienced a rather difficult period being married to a veteran suffering from PTSD after serving in Afghanistan. Sadly their marriage ended, but what doesn’t break you, definitely makes you stronger and wiser. Warren has taken the time to pour her heart and soul to penning some amazing lyrics that cross cultural, gender and racial barriers. Who can’t relate to love, loss, heart break and survival?
The Great Unknowns are back together and better than ever! The critics gave them high acclaim before, but this winter’s anticipated album, Homefront, is sure to please even the most discriminating music lovers. If you don’t love country music, then that’s okay because Great Unknowns is Alt Country, infusing a little bit of rock with a little bit of soul and some country. Trust me; it makes for an amazing sound!
For the performance on Friday, September 30, the band has partnered with CAUSE. They will perform at the Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C. and proceeds will go to CAUSE and all veterans who attend will receive a special gift from the Great Unknowns. The show starts at 9 p.m.and tickets are $10.
