Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man,
Laugh out Loud and Enjoy

Quirky, bawdy and very playful, Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man will have you laughing from the first scene. I don’t know if I will be using the “tips” from the performance, but I enjoyed the clever presentation that was never uncomfortable, just amusing. There’s no one type of audience for this show; I suggest everyone will enjoy this humorous romp.

Jason Michael SnowThis world premiere comedy is set inside a local university auditorium, where the featured event, Rendezvous with Alternative Authors of the Modern Era, is an interactive discussion with the author of the book, Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man. The book’s author, Dan Anderson, coaxes Robyn, the shy and studious moderator of the event, to follow her dreams and his sex tips to enhance her lifestyle. Assisted by a buff and sexy stage assistant, Stefan, Dan is able to deliver real demonstrations of how to please a man using his firsthand experience.

The stage play is based on the 1997 book of the same name by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman that became a best-seller and has been published in international markets; a text of the fun-filled world of foolproof moves and insider advice which could only be gathered by a charming and perceptive gay man. And, the play goes through each chapter of the book.

Jason Michael Snow and Andrew BrewerThere’s some “audience participation” in Sex Tips, just enough to draw everyone into a few of the absurd moments unfolding onstage. I won’t give all these away because they make the show especially fun but be prepared to roll your program into a cylindrical shape.

The three person cast is well positioned to make Sex Tips a theatrical happening. Leading the cast is Jason Michael Snow as Dan; he is utterly persuasive and charismatic but doesn’t take himself too seriously. Robyn, played by Lindsay Nicole Chambers is completely convincing in the role of an uptight professor. She is alternatively embarrassed and inquisitive as she succumbs to her sexual curiosity. Rounding out the talented trio is Andrew Brewer as Stefan, doing just as he is instructed by Dan, a gullible character who has the power to be provocative.

Andrew BrewerSex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man is 80 minutes of pure fun. Leave your inhibitions behind and get to this rollicking frolic. The house seats about 150 so it will sell out fast, especially when the word spreads that you enjoy some campy humor and learn a little more about sex besides.

Produced by Shawn Nightingale and Matt Murphy, Murphy is also the playwright who has adapted the book perfectly for the stage. Directed by Tim Drucker, he leads the creative team to a well devised production that will find a solid following. I, for one, look forward to returning with friends.
