The red carpet of the Oscars is always the perfect arena to gather inspiration for your Prom gear. The celebrities at this year’s awards did not let me down in the inspiration department. Whether you are attending a high school prom, a wedding, some form of spring gala, or just enjoy wearing a formal dress while doing your grocery shopping there are plenty of gowns sure to make you sparkle. I’ll show you a few of Oscar’s best looks and where you can attain a similar style for your big dance (or food shopping trip).
Jennifer Hudson blew away the media with her tangerine Versace gown. Orange is the new red, it seems, and its screams movie glam. This color and elegance will ensure that you make quite the entrance. If you sport this look, you are bound to be the epicenter of attention at your prom. Pick up a similar sun-kissed ballgown (below) at JCPenney.
Pretty In Pink
True Grit’s 14 year old star, Hailee Steinfeld was adorable in an age appropriate pink Marchesa poofy gown. It’s innocent and super fun, as a prom should be. Party princess style with a royal number (below) from heleneprom.com.
Prom Queen… with a Tail
A very elegant Mandy Moore stepped out on the red carpet wearing a nude-colored Monique Lhuillier mermaid dress, complete with a whimsical fishtail. This style flatters the figure, and your sultry (yet still covered) silhouette will ensure you to win the crown. At discountdressshop.com you can get this look (below) for under 100 bucks. It’s a whale of a bargain, and you’ll have a whale of a time!
Rock & Tulle
Marisa Tomei rocked a radical 1950’s Charles James couture gown paired with a tulle skirt from Lily et Cie. She looked as badass as she did reserved. Charles James was a fifties fashion designer, famous for creating highly sculptured gowns that still look cutting edge today. The obscure asymmetry is a great way to stand out while still preserving femininity and class. Asymmetrical gowns are very in this year so you shouldn’t have trouble attaining this look. Check out the angular gem below at JCPenney.
Do It Right in Black and White
Shine in simplicity with a basic black and white gown such as the one worn by Reese Witherspoon. Her winning smile lit up her gorgeous Armani Prive dress. Long gloves and bright earrings would add some extra pizzazz to this look. Perhaps you should ask your date to get you a hot pink or turquoise corsage for a splash of color. Promgirl.com was so inspired by Reese’s look that they actually created their own based on her appearance. For even less cash you can get a similar look at JCPenney.
