Manhattan’s Christmas windows are famous the world over and a huge tourist attraction. For New York families and friends, strolling Fifth Avenue from 57th to 37th Street, especially with children and grandchildren in tow, is a highlight of the season. And veteran New Yorkers are always eager to compare, contrast and debate their favorites over a cup of hot chocolate or a latte.
Below are 43 photos of what’s in the windows (and interiors) of Lord & Taylor, Saks, Henri Bendel, Tiffany’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, and Bloomingdale’s, plus a bit of Rockefeller Center. Perhaps because of the recession, there is less glitter, less opulence, less over-the-top Christmas fantasy than previous years—but well worth a visit.
