Karen Ko’s Wearable Art Turns Prim into Punk

Manhattan glamoristas, socialites, and fashion forward thinkers are flocking to k2o by Karen Ko, a new line of jewelry designed by Karen Ko. S & M meets glamour girl chic in body harnesses and other pieces of wearable art which accentuate shoulders and ankles. The collection consists of ankle spike bracelets, long drapey necklaces, and glittery earrings. Ladylike turns edgy and dangerous in many of her pieces. Wearing one of these screams “I am strong and fierce yet ultra-feminine.” Most of the jewelry is 24K gold coated Swarovski crystals along with some alternative materials.

Karen began her career in the world of finance after receiving an undergraduate degree from Columbia University. A self confessed “party girl” who loves the New York nightclub scene, she was initially inspired by her inability to find wearable jewelry that reflected her personal style. She started designing jewelry for herself which attracted attention from friends and other potential clients. As interest grew, she began selling one of a kind custom jewelry which led to the launch of her parent company Intersect Designs in 2007.

Anyone interested in the fashion shock factor should check out her ankle spikes (opening photo). They’re unique and make a strong, bold fashion statement. This fall, Karen will be launching her first men’s jewelry line, KO. She hopes to continue designing unique collections that push the boundaries of the established jewelry industry.
