I’ll tell you a secret: I’m obsessed with pockets on or in purses. I always have been. I have a lot of trouble passing a bag with clever secret pockets and organizational features. That is why I have a serious problem with Lug Life; that is, my bank account has a serious problem with Lug Life.
Once you go Lug, you can’t go back. As a huge Lug Life fan, I know this better than anyone else I know… except my coworkers, whom I introduced Lug bags to a few months ago. And my family, who basically never stop hearing about how awesome they are. And my friends. But that’s enough about my obsession.
So how did Lug Life start? “With a guy, a girl, and a dog, 1,456 miles of asphalt, and 23 hours logged in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee from Dallas, TX, to Toronto, ON, Canada.” Ami and Jason, founders of Lug Life (and newlyweds as of May 25, 2010), decided to enter the travel gear business when they decided that it was “filled with black and boring product.” Beginning with luggage belts and tags (in bright colors, of course) in 2005, they expanded into bags by January 2006. But, as their website notes and their fans can testify to, not the plain, boring, and uni-functional bags of yesteryear: colorful, smart, organizational-sensational bags that will whip your travel bag or purse into shape faster than you can say, “Lug Life.”
I will tell you, these bags are incredible. I check either their website or their Facebook page almost everyday (I’m completely serious) to see if there is a new blog post about a product launch or a potential Lug-Lifer with a question I might be able to help with. Since I personally own over ten Lug products, I’m pretty well-equipped to answer queries about colors or pocket details, or exactly how much stuff something will hold.
And they certainly hold quite a bit (this, of course, depends on which style you choose). I recently purchased the Parasail Ripple Cosmetic Case in Rose Pink and managed to fit every product I use in the shower, including a razor with the wall storage thing; full size bottles of my facial moisturizer, face wash, and exfoliant; small bottles of conditioner and body wash; my toothbrush, floss, and a travel tube of toothpaste; and a full-sized deodorant. I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten some stuff, that’s how big it is.
The cool thing is, many of their products don’t have just one use. Their diaper bags can be used as travel bags and vice versa, their evening bag can be used as a toiletry or cosmetic case, etc. Each bags presents excellent value for the money. They’re durable, functional, and yet also manage to be attractive.
When my mom (aka Editor of Woman Around Town) asked me if there was a story in this company, I responded with an enthusiastic, “Yes!” After looking through the website to find some nice pictures for the story, she yelled from another room, “Wow, they have a lot of bags. And they’re not expensive. And they come in a lot of colors!” I yelled back, “I KNOW! Why do you think I’ve been raving about them??” A new fan of Lug Life. Welcome to the fold, mom.
