Since Ludivine Gregoire, a very hip, Provencal native, opened her first boutique in 2005 at 172 West 4th Street, I have been hooked on this indie shop and its hand picked selection of hard to find French labels. Well, I need not hop on the F train anymore. Ludivine has opened her second location at Lexington and 82nd Street.
The uptown outpost has a very urban edge with cement walls, exposed metal beams and hard wood floors. This store owner has focused more on fashion than fluff. The clothes are chic and sophisticated with a cool rocker girl edge.
The moment you step in you will notice only black and neutrals, few prints and no color. Ludivine is about real wearable clothes where silhouette and beautiful fabrics create pieces that anyone can wear.
Gorgeous sweaters and T’s from Les Prairies de Paris in powdery pastels ($110-$250) fit like a dream. I also love the very extensive collection of Jerome Dreyfuss sand washed leather handbags ($400-$700) which add a little hippie chic to the otherwise toned down clothes. Claudie Pierlot silk dresses ($350) are perfect for any summertime soiree, and if boots are your passion de jour Golden Goose ($1,400) handmade cowboy boots are over the top!
But, seriously ladies, you must not leave Ludivine without a Vanessa Bruno canvas and sequined trim tote in a delicious color ($215) this will become your favorite summer find. For me, the best part of visiting Ludivine is the tres charmant Ludivine herself. She is always in the shop to answer questions, help with fit and make a hum drum day on upper Lexington a fantasie Francaise!
