Everyone has friends or family members who love to decorate their home with impeccable taste. The next time they invite you to their place for a party or get-together, don’t bring a bottle of wine like everyone else, bring a gift that will add to the style and beauty of their house or apartment. You can find that perfect gift at the Peter Valcarcel Home Pop-Up Shop.

Peter Valcarcel is a residential and commercial interior decorator (see Woman Around Town’s article about Peter here). This pop-up shop, located in Astoria in KrisTEES boutique (see Woman Around Town’s article about KrisTEES here), is an opportunity for him to offer items, many of them one-of-a-kind, that he has designed and created. In addition, his shop also features “found objects,” which are beautiful items that he’s discovered from his travels over the years that would add elegance to any home.

Throw pillows can spice up a living room and add color and texture to any couch or end chair. Peter designed several pillows in grey, cream, and brown colors and patterns. Most are made with wool using feather and down as inserts. These pillows look even more amazing when combined with throw blankets made with super soft wool from baby alpacas that are hand-loomed by a group of artisans from Peru. The blankets are lightweight yet cozy and warm during the cold winter months.

Peter also created a variety of modern prints that would look stylish hanging on any wall. Some are made with gold leaf acrylic paint that was applied onto canvas; others are collages made with grey and white paper. Each piece is unique and beautifully framed.

If you’re looking for a gift for a writer, Peter offers hand-made journals created by artist Perla Kopeloff. Each one has a cover made with antique paper, and the inside pages are made from recycled paper.

Many of Peter’s found objects are mid-century items. One of his favorite pieces is a yellow and orange milk glass cookie jar. Another is a set of drinking glasses individually handblown by pottery maker Eva Zeisel. He also has a 2-piece carafe set that can be used for either hot or cold beverages, as well as stainless steel candle trays that can display candles in various ways.

One of his most popular items is a mother of pearl and silver set of salt and pepper shakers. He also has a small vintage glass collection including a decanter, a liquor bottle, and two candle holders. In addition, he acquired handcrafted white pottery while in upstate New York.

Peter’s found some fascinating items from other countries, such as garden obelisks made of iron from France. He also has beautiful pottery from Japan, with designs in the center of each bowl that were made using leaves. In Mexico he discovered a tray and two bowls made of hammered tin, perfect for candles, potpourri, or cheese. And from India he obtained mirrored glass items including a vase, a bowl, and hurricane candleholders.

These lovely items are available at the Peter Valcarcel Home Pop-Up Shop in Astoria. If for some reason you can’t stop by to visit the store but see something in this article you’d like to purchase, contact Peter at info@petervalcarcel.com.
