Holiday shopping bazaars have popped up all over the city, with presents for every man, woman, child, and pet on your gift list. If you are looking for beautiful, unusual jewelry at affordable prices, then make sure to stop at Prudence C’s booth in Grand Central.

We had to fight our way into the booth. The word, evidently, is out. After watching Prudence hug several of her regular customers, we quickly got it. She has fans, lots of fans, who wait in anticipation for this holiday sale. The rest of the year, Prudence’s jewelry is sold wholesale, making it necessary to find a store or museum that carries her creations. (Anthropologie is one). But to see the entire collection, hurry to Grand Central before the fair is over.

Prudence makes good use of color, mixing and matching gems and stones in imaginative settings. Whether you are looking for rings, earrings, bracelets, or necklaces, you will have difficulty making a choice. Have a conservative aunt to buy for? She will love the delicate earrings that resemble leaves sprinkled with stardust. Have a good friend who favors long, dangling earrings that make a statement? Check out the ones in ivory dripping with silk fringe.

Add interest to a hairstyle, with a silk bow or a gem-encrusted bobby pin. Prudence has lariats, long ropes of flowers, silk and crystals, that can be worn around the neck to dress up a plain sweater. Expect compliments and cries of “where did you get that?” You can tell, but only if it’s before Christmas Eve when Prudence will close up shop. After that, send friends to her website. And wait for next year.
