This season presents a cornucopia of books for all those who want to rock on. There’s Steven Roby’s BECOMING JIMI HENDRIX, which promises the real inside story of the great Woodstock era electric guitarist, who died way too young. This paperback includes photos of young Jimi growing up in Seattle, his battle with racism, and his triumph at the Monterey Pop Festival.

A must have for all true aficionados, A BIOGRAPHICAL GUIDE TO THE GREAT JAZZ AND POP SINGERS, by Will Friedwald, is treasure trove of information. Here’s everything you could ever want to know about everyone from Al Jolson to Harry Connick, Jr. An ideal gift for the more mature music lover.

I am a map nut, and I bet you know someone who is a map nut, too. We are not content with your average run of the mill Atlas. We crave the unique; we are armchair explorers whose imaginations know no bounds. For this very special individual in your life, you must make Christmas morning a joy with ATLAS OF REMOTE ISLANDS. Judith Schalansky’s subtitle says it all, “Fifty Islands I Have Never Set Foot On, And Never Will.” I am so there.

Do not hesitate another moment! Christmas is just around the corner, you know.
