Being a Better You: How to Start a More Spiritual Life

Going on a spiritual journey is not something that’s just for the hippies. When you are looking for a purpose in life or you want to feel a bigger sense of fulfillment, filling your life with some sort of spiritual practice or faith can be a way for you to acquire meaning. But what do you do when you don’t know where to begin? What does it take to start on a spiritual journey to a happy existence?

Don’t Overthink It

People may try their best to look for a higher power but in reality, spirituality has nothing to do with going to church. You can get as much meaning from your horoscope as you can becoming a Muslim. Whatever you feel drawn to, go to it. Ultimately, finding spirituality is about meaning for you, no one else. And if you are looking for a place to begin, there is plenty of information out there. The 12 zodiac sign dates and meanings can give you an insight into yourself but so can going for a long walk. If something is drawing you in, try it.

Learn Forgiveness

As clichéd as it is, part of becoming a more spiritual person is about learning to forgive. We can spend a lot of time carrying stress and anxiety around us which will eventually become the undoing of us. If you want to fight stress, the important thing is to make peace with who you are. This can mean forgiving yourself before forgiving others. And while this may sound like a very strange concept in the world of selfies and Instagram filters, but when you learn to forgive yourself for mistakes you’ve made but also learn to forgive others when they try to hurt you or make comments about you, it sets you free.

Get To The Root Of You

Understanding who you are isn’t something that takes a few days. Spirituality is, in essence, about figuring out meaning to life and who you are by living your life. It’s crucial to get to the root of who you are and this means that you need to learn to block out the noise by undertaking some sort of spiritual practice. It doesn’t have to be about sitting down and meditating but this is something that many people do because they learn to quieten the voices in their head. We all have that little voice that tells us we can’t do things or stops us from achieving and when we get to the root of ourselves and separate the true thoughts in our heads from the static, we will better understand who we are which means we can make peace.

Be Patient

We must remember that being a spiritual person isn’t necessarily about “peace and love” but it’s about realizing that when there are problems in the world that we exude a sense of zen. Being patient is about learning that when there are problems in life, they will soon pass. And it takes a certain kind of person to be patient in a stressful world. Right now everybody is going through an incredible amount of stress; this means that many people are turning to religion or spirituality as a key. You don’t have to turn to the Bible, but if you learn how to uncover a sense of stillness and calm the chaos, you will inadvertently become a patient person. And this is something that can be a life lesson to all of us right now. But learning to be patient when everybody else is stressed is the perfect way of leading by example during troubled times; we all want to be that person who is calm in the face of danger. If you can learn how to be patient through a sense of spirituality, this will serve you well.

Every Day Is A Lesson

To become spiritual is whatever you want it to be. You don’t necessarily have to ingratiate yourself with people that go to church but it can be about getting to the core of who you are by learning about yourself. And this is the very definition of spirituality. By learning who you are in the grand scheme of things you discover so much about yourself and figure out your place in the world and the universe; it is almost like a light is switched on! Realizing that you are one person out of billions in a galaxy of planets is something that we don’t always think about, not least when we have to update our social media! And this can be the thing that brings us back down to earth into our bodies and our minds. And the way to begin it is to find some sort of practice and learn the lessons life throws at us.
