Keep Your Man Healthy With These Five Tips

We want to do all that we can as women to fight the patriarchy, but there are men in our lives and we want to care for them as much as possible. Sometimes, that means supporting the men in our lives and reminding them how to take care of their health is sometimes a part of that. Men often like to be the “strong” and silent types, and when that happens admitting there is a problem doesn’t happen until it’s too late. It’s noble, and it’s stupid and we need to support the health of the men we love as much as our own.

Raising awareness for men’s health is key, especially if you have a male partner or a son. Prostate cancer treatment is hard to handle, and if the men in your life aren’t being checked for prostate cancer, this is what they could end up dealing with. With this in mind, here are five tips for keeping the men in your life healthy:

  • Be Active. Exercise doesn’t just make you feel good, it helps you to bond with the men in your life and raise awareness for their physical health. If you are working together to get fit, you’re going to learn what makes each other feel good. From here, you can talk about workouts that are going to offer you both a better health outlook.
  • Choosing Better Food. Cooking evening meals together will help you both to learn the better options. If you have noticed that your partner is eating less than healthy food more often, you can change that with some subtle shifts in what you eat. Everyone knows what a “beer gut” is and if your man has one, it’s time to talk to him about that and cut back the alcohol.
  • Get Checkups Together. So, he hates going to the doctor, right? Go with him and get your check-ups done at the same time. If you’re doing it together, you’re more likely to encourage him to get a check-up and ensure that his health is intact. Prostate cancer is more of a risk in older men, too, so if he’s older, encourage him to go with you and have his health checked.
  • Self-check Together. How is he day to day? If he has noticed any changes in his body? Any discharge that shouldn’t be there? Any changes to skin or lumps? Any changes with urinating and bowel movements? All of these are things he may notice but not say out loud.
  • Have Fun Together. Where you can, work to destress with each other and you can reduce your risk of further health issues. Maintaining your health physically together is more fun when you are in it as a team. Stress can cause so many different health issues, but if you are looking after each other, you ensure that you are both at optimum health.

We may be fighting the fight to be equal to men, but we need men and they need to be healthy. Let’s work together to keep it that way.
