Taking Care of Your Appearance
Of course, appearances aren’t everything. Beauty is more than skin deep. But if you’re looking for a new year’s resolution, you may want to consider taking a little better care of your appearance in the upcoming twelve months. Here are a few steps you can take to give yourself a little overhaul and glow up this new year!
Your Smile
One of the first things that people will notice when they look at you is your smile. Your smile can brighten up your face and the faces of those around you! But not many of us are born with natural Hollywood smiles. At the absolute least, you should visit your dentist twice a year to check up on your dental hygiene and ensure that everything’s in ship shape. But if you’re considering extra steps for a white, brighter, and straighter smile, here are a few steps you can take!
Whitening
While children often have pearly whites, many of us find that our teeth yellow or dull over the years. There are various different habits that can cause yellowing, ranging from from drinking coffee on a regular basis to smoking. But this can be reversed with whitening. While you can white your smile yourself with home whitening kits, it’s generally advised that you have whitening carried out professionally. This will reduce chances of patches developing or missing spots.
Straightening
If you don’t have straight teeth naturally, you can straighten them with bracds. Most people avoid having braces, as when braces are mentioned, thoughts can often jump to traditional silver train track style braces worn by teenagers. Nowadays, however, there are more “invisible” braces on the market. These aren’t quite so noticeable. They align your teeth discreetly, as they are placed on the back of your teeth and are transparent. A dentist will be able to show you options that best suit your needs.
Veneers
If you don’t want to wait for results you can speed up this entire process of having white, straight teeth by considering veneers. Veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry that is becoming increasingly common thanks to a rapid rise in popularity. The process involves a dentist filing down the surface of your own tooth and then placing a porcelain veneer over the top.
Dental Implants
If you’re missing teeth, you might want to consider dental implants. There are traditional implants and an alternative to traditional implants in the form of mini implants. Again, it’s generally best to consult your doctor about which kind of implants are best for you!
Your Hair
No matter what hairstyle you have, you need to take good care of your locks to have healthy looking hair. If you don’t do anything with your hair, including dying it or styling it, you should be fine as you are. However, if you do colour or heat style your hair, the following advice should help you out.
Colour your Hair Carefully
Colouring your hair responsibly is extremely important for maintaining healthy hair. When dying your hair, make sure to do a patch test to ensure you’re not allergic to the dye itself. If your patch test is fine, you can go ahead. Generally speaking, it’s best to have your hair dyed by a professional with good reviews. This will ensure that you don’t break it or snap it off if you’re bleaching it. They’ll ensure that you also have a good haircare routine to maintain good hair quality.
Reduce Use of Heated Tools
The majority of us will use heat to style our hair at some point or another. Whether that’s straightening it, curling it, crimping it, or using a whole host of other heated tools to get your desired look. The problem is that heat styling can seriously damage your hair. Rather than using heated tools every day, try having your natural hair for the majority of the week and heated styles just a couple of times a week. Even better – save heat styling for special occasions.
Trim the Ends
If you’re trying to grow your hair, you may be reluctant to get a haircut. But you should have a trim every once in a while. Sure, you might lose a few centimetres, but having a trim can get rid of split ends and result in an overall better quality hair. Again, this work is generally best left to a professional. They’ll be able to give you a neat finish and you’ll only have the minimal amount taken off if you want to maintain your length. Mistakes made by yourself trying to cut your hair could result in more having to be taken off to neaten things up.
Eyebrow Threading
Hair removal should fall entirely down to personal choice. If you don’t want to remove hair, that’s fine. If you do want to remove hair, that’s fine too. If you want to neaten up your eyebrows, try out eyebrow threading. This is an ancient hair removal technique that involves a professional using a piece of cotton thread, twisting it into a double strand and sweeping it across the area where hair is to be removed. The unwanted hairs are lifted from the follicle and disposed of.
This is a great option for those who have sensitive skin and it can prove to be much more precise than plucking. You’ll find extremely fine hairs removed to achieve the eyebrow shape you desire. If you’re not up for threading, you can try waxing or plucking. If your eyebrows are fine and you’d like them to be darker and thicker, you could also try out tinting or microblading too!
These are just a few different areas to focus on when it comes to keeping on top of your physical appearance. Of course, none of these steps are absolutely necessary. But they can help you to lead a healthier and happier lifestyle while feeling presentable!
