Salute! Sofia Italian Grill Blends Culinary Traditions

Sofia Italian Grill, the fine dining restaurant, has a stylish location at 42 West 48th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. Frank Sophia is well known in the New York restaurant community. He is proud of the culinary experience they offer and enthusiastic about the success of their midtown location.

Sofia’s was in New York’s Theater District for 37 years as a popular spot located in the Hotel Edison and they also owned the famed Kenny’s Steakhouse for 30 years. The Sofia family is now blending beloved culinary traditions with their grill expertise.

BarIn the heart of the Rockefeller Plaza area, Sofia’s has generous bar space along with first and second level dining areas. The ambiance is stylish, yet welcoming and comfortable. While convenient for theatergoers, shoppers, tourists, and the business community, it is quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the area. Private dining space is also available.

Executive Chef Michele Orsino is a native of Rome, Italy. He has included a number of very new creations on the menu. Open for lunch and dinner, Sofia’s has a tempting array of appetizers, salads, paninis, entrees and desserts. Raw bar and fresh seafood specialties including their “Shellfish Bouquet” complement the menu.

Bar_from_MezzanineWe stopped by on a Monday night for dinner. For an appetizer, we had Ostriche Con Panna Aeida ($15) a unique presentation of oysters with a delicate sour cream and raspberry caramel. A salad favorite, Pera Gorgonzola ($15) is beautifully presented with pears, fresh gorgonzola, and arugula with a delicious red wine cinnamon dressing. Prime Aged Sirloin ($46) proves that Sofia’s knows how to prepare steaks perfectly and we ordered their Potato Croquette ($10) as a side. Fresh pasta, Linguine Pescatore ($26) with tender shrimp, scallops and crabmeat is served with a light tomato sauce. Of course, cannolis topped off our meal.

A vintage selection of wine, beer, and classic cocktails can be paired with your meal choices. The staff of Sofia Italian Grill is friendly and gracious, ready to discuss their menu with guests and make recommendations based on your preferences.

With a history of providing New Yorkers with an outstanding dining experience, the Sofia family welcomes friends, new and old, to their 48th Street location.
