August Is the Best Time For…

The last month of the summer was named after the first Roman emperor, Augustus Caesar, who apparently added two days to the month to match the length of Julius Caesar’s July. For young people, August was the last – maybe the best time – to enjoy warm months before going back to school. But with many public schools across the country opening early, August is back to school time for many students.

But the month of the astrological sign Leo has a lot to recommend itself. Here are a few things:

Farmer’s Markets. Late summer is the best time to shop for tomatoes, berries, beans, zucchini, peppers, and other fruits and vegetables that are at their peak.

Movies. The blockbuster summer films begin to Peter out which means you can get a seat in the theater or, even better, stream the film on your TV.

Restaurants. With city people heading to the mountains and shore for end of the season vacations, sought after seats at the best places to dine have availability.

Dress sales. Fall clothes begin to fill the racks which means that physical stores and online ones have to move merchandise. It’s the best time to get bargains that you can wear now and into the fall.

Travel. With many children going back to school, popular vacation destinations are less crowded and many have lower prices. A great time to snag a deal.

Sports. Baseball heads into the final months before the World Series, so much excitement ahead. And with football just gearing up, time to buy tickets for the big game before they’re sold out.

Fall in New York City is busy, with the calendar filling up with school events and charity benefits. August provides a time to kick back and relax before the calendar fills up.
