Dogfish Inn and Lewes, Delaware for the Ideal Getaway

2025 is a year for new adventures and we have an idea for a perfectly rewarding getaway. The Dogfish Inn, located in the charming shore community of Lewes, Delaware, is ideal for overnight excursions or longer stays. A visit is a marvelous opportunity to relax and refresh. The rooms are attractive and very comfortable with all the amenities you need. The Cottage that serves as the lobby is welcoming with a friendly, helpful staff, coffee, tea, and a seating area with a warming fireplace. In the evening, circle around the outdoor fire pit with your friends and family.
The Dogfish Inn slogan states, “Welcome to Lewes, Mother Nature let’s do this.” Birdwatchers delight in the opportunity to view shore birds and migratory species and there are plenty of viewing spots that include Gordon Pond Wildlife Area, Cape Henlopen Hawk Watch, and the Great Marsh Preserve. Bundle up for a beach stroll or a local bike ride.
The Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and Dogfish Head Distilling Co. in Milton is a quick drive from Lewes. There, you can tour their facilities, have drinks, delicious bites at their eatery, and purchase beer, spirits and fill your growler. We took a tour of the brewery with the knowledgeable guide, Leigh Merritt, who gave us a complete, fascinating view of the beer-making operations while we sipped one Dogfish Head’s popular brews, 60 Minute IPA.
To wrap up your day, take a short ride to the neighboring shore town of Rehoboth where Dogfish has two wonderful restaurants and a shop. We relished a delicious dinner at their casual eatery, Brewings & Eats that’s ideal for groups, families, date night, or going solo. We started our meal with a fan-favorite, Pretzel Bites. Tuesday and Thursday have $12 all day specials on burgers and pizzas, delicious choices that include the burger we relished – “You Make Me Wanna” with a Worcestershire glace, arugula tossed with horseradish dressing, caramelized onions and smoked gouda cheese on a brioche bun. Tasty wood-fired pizzas include a savory choice, “The Light of the World,” with prosciutto, basil-spinach pesto, ricotta cheese, house-made mozzarella, tomato, arugula, a balsamic glace and oregano. Pair your meal with Brewpub Exclusives that are available on draft. Next time we’re in Rehoboth, we plan to return to the other Dogfish Head restaurant, Chesapeake & Maine that serves delectable seafood dishes and more.
If you love to learn about history like we do, Lewes is the place to be and there are attractions just steps from Dogfish Inn. The Lewes Historical Society has a treasure trove of information about the town’s background and there are centuries’ old buildings that you can visit. More information can be obtained by visiting the website.
It’s so easy to get to Lewes, Delaware from neighboring states. If you’re coming from the north, you can even enjoy a scenic ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry like we did. The ferry accommodates cars and has very nice seating options for passengers. The ferry station is a few minutes from Dogfish Inn and the boat ride takes about 90 minutes.
Don’t wait for the summer season to visit Dogfish Inn and the other properties by Dogfish Head. While you probably will vow to return in the warmer weather, we think it’s a superb destination this winter.
