Support LSA Family Health Services School Supply Drive for Students of East Harlem
New York City’s public schools will open on Thursday, September 5. Parents and students are shopping at Staples, Target, and other stores for classroom supplies. But many families in East Harlem face financial challenges and are not able to afford these back-to-school necessities. Each year, the LSA Family Health Service reaches out to the community to make sure these children have what they need to succeed.
Melina Gonzalez, LSA’s Individual and Community Engagement Manager/Immigration Services, says there are three ways you can help:
- Donate Supplies. LSA has compiled a wish list of what students need that can be purchased on Amazon. (Click here to go to the list.) Items include backpacks, notebooks and binders, pencils, markers, erasers, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, scissors, and glue sticks. After placing the items in your chopping cart, you can have them shipped directly to LSA’s headquarters.
- Monetary Donations. If you prefer, you can make a financial donation by going to the LSA Family Health Services’ website.
- Spread the Word. Forward this story to family and friends and encourage them to give. The more people who know about this effort, the better equipped the students will be.
If you would rather drop off your donations, the LSA Health Service office is at 333 East 115th Street.
We all know how excited our own children are when they can go back to school with a new backpack or pencil case. Let’s work together to bring some of that joy into the lives of the children in East Harlem. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated by the families.
