Inauguration 2021: The New Chapter

Allow the seas of change
Rise up to greet your shore.
Let its power cleanse the salt
From your every sore.
Let the morning fog carress
Your every troubled thought.
Take a new look at Democracy
Denouncing untruths by the lot.

Let the palm trees sway
To cool our angered south.
Let religious pray
For souls parched by a drouth.
See the blossomed rose,
Remembering its thorn:
Pedals falling to the ground
While its sweet aroma mourns.

We are a single nation
With acres big and small.
Planting seeds of many colors
Which can nourish one and all.
I am not your enemy;
Nor are you one to me;
We both work for America
To shine from sea to sea.

We are opening new chapters
Where we are to read and learn.
Understanding what’s forever lost,
We’ll create anew or burn.
We’ll pick the bud from Morning’s Glory,
To see the promise of our new day,
Ensuring ‘merica we’re free

We’re free to vote for leadership
Who’ll fight for all of us.
Not to point a finger
And throw us ‘neath a bus.
Free to speak what we believe
Without worry we’ll be harmed:
A Capitol for all of us
Where we walk about unarmed.

Free to disagree with law.
And free to take the space,
By debating law with others.
Liberty is not a race.
Free to hold another close
Because we.know its love;
That gives us wings  to fly up
Where our Eagle flies with doves.

And on this January 20
Our strengths burnished in our heart.
We’ll grab another by the hand,
Making sure we all are part,
Of a circle thats been broken;
To endure we’ve all been heard…
As we recommit our loyalties
To our constitution’s words.

America, an idea
Forged by dreamers long ago.
Knowing in the dream there’s work;
Knowing we would grow.
And argue like we’re children;
Strike out and cause one pain.
Finally understanding,
In fighting there’s no gain.

We can fly from new beginnings
And leave what’s broken there.
Deciding it’s a new age
Where everyone can care.
Care to restore compass;
Care to walk the walk;
Care to truly listen;
And let another person talk.
