New York in the Spotlight This Week
In the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, this week the spotlight turned, not on the battleground states, but on New York City when Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on on five federal charges related to bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy and soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals, according to a 57-page indictment unsealed Thursday morning. The ripple effects of what this means for the near term, as well as for next year’s mayoral election, remains to be seen. With New York Congressional seats up for grabs this November, flipping the House may be a challenge unless Democrats can distance themselves from Adams. So far, Adams has refused to resign, so the ball is in Governor Kathy Hochul’s court. Will she removed him from office? So much to cover. Here are some stories you may have missed.
