Poet’s Corner: Tunnels in the Word

“Tunnels in the Word” is included in the new book From Rhythm to Form, with paintings by Marsha Solomon, a frequent contributor to Woman Around Town, and poems written by Stanley H. Barkan.

Only in some
tunnels is there
a long distance
to the light
at the end.

This one starts
with light, orange,
drawing us into it.

Trekking through it
we move towards
the dark, the dark
at the end
of this tunnel
of orange light.

In the labyrinth
of brightness we learn
not to be lost,
to emerge,
to exit where there
are only shadows,
on the wall
of the cave.
