Poet’s Corner: Vacation in My Head
I see a sea of waters, blue;
While looking up to skies with birds.
I watch a poet writing,
And she’s crafting perfect words.
I see lovers in the distance,
Preparing to be wed:
I believe there’ll be a new day;
While I vacation in my head.
I watch Mickey Mouse, he’s dancing;
And Goofy joins, in jig.
I hear Daffy Duck and Putty Tat;
Then a stutter: Porky Pig.
I watch the Jetsons, jet about;
While Snow White sits up in bed.
I believe there will be better days;
While I vacation in my head.
I hear my family laughing,
And we greet with loving hugs;
And we sit out in the garden,
While counting Lady Bugs.
We decide it’s time for dinner;
And when it’s done and said?
It felt good to live a better day,
While I vacation in my head.
Gary comes to hold me;
As we walk down a wedding aisle.
He’s standing in the sun of love;
Eyes twinkling; a smile:
And when we go to honeymoon?
And lie down in our bed?
Contentment overwhelms me;
While I vacation in my head.
I hear the bell of freedom;
And new leadership abound.
With action lawf’lly taken,
While the old are all uncrowned.
I see peace, as if a wave of blue
Struck like the copperhead:
Un-relentlessly reminding,
I’m on vacation in my head.
I’ve grown fond of this vacation;
Its snapshots do remind:
That I have a lived a good life
And there’s more which will be mined.
For life is for the taking;
Like a piece of monkey bread:
And what that has been pulled apart,
Finds reason in my head.
And now, in twenty-twenty-one,
I’m riding in my car;
Lis’ning to the radio;
Singing ‘long, like I’m a star:
Rememb’ring days of living,
When tethered to my bed.
Days I dreamed of, like this day…
Once a vacation in my head.
