5 Tips for Looking Sensational During Your Hot Summer Vacation
Sure, some people like to travel to hot destinations in the winter — when they can enjoy the warmth of a tropical locale compared to their frigid hometowns.
There’s a real satisfaction in packing for these types of trips — knowing you’ll soon be trading your winter puffer coat and mittens for a swimsuit and sundress.
But what if your summer travel plans include a trip to Spain, Greece, Mexico, or Florida?
Can you say hot travel?
Up ahead, we’ve laid out some top tips for packing smart on trips like these, including key advice for looking stunning in all your vacation photos — even when it’s 100 degrees outside!
Look Hot When It’s Hot Out: Top Tips for Smart Summer Travel Wear
1. Choose dresses and skirts over slacks.
You may be a shorts, capris, and pants person at home. But when you’re on vacation in a super-hot destination, you should seriously consider dresses and skirts instead of slacks. The reason is simple: you’ll get more airflow with a dress or skirt.
And while it’s true that you probably won’t be able to do backflips or hang upside down on the monkey bars if you have a skirt on, for most travel excursions (walking through town, going to the beach, checking out museums, shopping, etc.), you should be just fine — and a lot cooler!
2. Find clothes that are flattering to your body type.
As you shop for your trip, remember one of the number one rules for finding clothes that are flattering to your body type: totally disregard size. It doesn’t matter if you’re a size 6 or 16, whatever fits your body is what you should buy.
This means that if you feel better and more comfortable shopping for plus size clothes, do it! These days, plus size stores have so many amazingly cute options, and they’re built to look good on all body types.
3. Wear lighter colors when possible (and prints are best).
If it’s going to be ultra-hot where you’re going you’ll need to pull out all the stops to avoid even a few extra degrees of warmth.Wearing lighter colors like pale pink, light blue, etc. over darker colors like black and navy can help. This is because dark colors tend to absorb the warmth of the sun, and light colors reflect the heat.
The reason we also recommend wearing prints over solid colors is that you’ll have limited clothing on your vacation, and this means that if you were to accidentally drop some food on yourself or get a stain on one of your outfits, you’ll be out of luck.
Of course, you can always try to find a laundromat or clean the stain in the sink. But when you have prints, on the other hand, it’s more likely that a slight discoloration in the fabric of your clothes won’t even be noticeable. Prints are always better for travel.
4. Get good at posing.
You know you’re going to want to take a bunch of awesome photos on your trip. And hopefully, whoever you go with will take photos of you too so that you have some keepsakes to remember the event by.
Just keep in mind that if you want to look good in your vacay pics, you’ve definitely got to know how to pose to flatter your body. To do this first, remember that candid shots are often the best. In other words, sometimes the last thing you should do is pose!
But if your hubby or BF wants to snap a few of you in front of a landmark or at the beach, here are some tips.
Start by turning yourself slightly to the side. Don’t face the camera head-on, but don’t turn totally to the side either. Next, create some angles with your body. To do this, put your hand on your hip, or bend a knee and rest back on your other leg.
Finally, think of something that actually makes you smile and laugh — like your puppy or something funny your mom said. A genuine grin will come across on the camera far better than one that is plastered on only for the photo.
5. If you never wear it at home, don’t assume you’ll wear it on vacation.
Last, but not least, if you’re not used to wearing an outfit or a piece of clothing at home, definitely do not bring it with you on your trip.
Far too many women make this mistake when they pack for a vacation. They think they’ll be an entirely different person in Aruba or Hawaii, only to find out that they are the same person who likes wearing the same things that they’re used to wearing at home!
Use the tips above to pack smart and stylish for your upcoming summer trip! Bon, voyage!
