If you’re looking to propose in the near future, congratulations! Although it’s an exciting time, it can obviously also be quite a nerve-wracking time, particularly when you want everything to go as planned. Whether you’re in the midst of planning your big proposal or are wanting to ensure nothing goes belly up, putting in the effort to minimise errors is always a good idea. It’s tough for many to know where to start, though. Never fear – in this article, we offer a few great tips to help you plan a perfect marriage proposal, so you can spend the rest of your life (positively) reminiscing about it.

A few pointers to get you started

Although you might have already thought about spending a couple of weekends looking at diamond engagement rings in Melbourne, you should first invest a bit of time in the more basic preparation. The best place to start is by making sure that you’re both on the same page. Although this might seem like a bit of a no-brainer, a proposal that is completely out of the blue (such as when marriage has never even been discussed) can quickly make sure that they aren’t taken too off guard, as this is never a positive step in a relationship. If you’re unsure how to bring it up for the first time, consider bringing up a friend’s engagement and gauge their thoughts from there. You might even consider talking to their parents first, and although it might not necessarily be crucial in the grand scheme of things, it can demonstrate that you’re looking forward to them being a part of your lives together in the future. It will also be quite appreciated by them, and you’ll already be in the good books as a great son or daughter-in-law!

Securing the ring

After you’re sure that everyone’s on board (whether they know it or not), then you can start looking at getting an engagement ring. You should invest a good amount of time in this, as an engagement ring is something that your partner will be wearing for the rest of their life. To get a good idea of what kind of ring they like, get a good understanding of the jewellery they both wear and enjoy the look of (such as whether they like vintage or modern), and it may even help to consult friends or family. After you know the kind of style you’re after, look for some jeweller recommendations (as good jewellers will make the process as pain-free as possible) and make sure to learn their ring size. If the proposal is not a secret you can absolutely ask, but otherwise you can secretly bring a ring of theirs to a jeweller (make sure it’s one they still wear) and from there you can ascertain their exact size foe the ring.

Take the time to plan the perfect proposal

Whether you’ve known your partner since high school or met through a chance encounter, investing some time into planning the perfect engagement can mean you forge a beautiful memory to be shared for the rest of your lives. As long as you take it slow, are careful and spend time where it matters most, you’ll be able to knock it out of the park and leave them speechless – which is exactly what you want!
