Rum Recipes to Celebrate National Rum Day on August 16

Rum is one of the oldest known distilled spirits in the world and it blends perfectly with a variety of flavors that are citrusy or rich and earthy ones. Rum cocktails are a refreshing summertime pleasure.  We are getting ready for National Rum Day, the unofficial holiday, that is coming up on August 16.  Here are seven easy to mix recipes that use top brands. Pick your faves, shop for ingredients, invite some friends over, and give rum the love it deserves. Pusser’s Painkiller

Ingredients:

-2 oz Pusser’s Rum
-4 oz pineapple juice
-1 oz orange juice
-1 oz cream of coconut
-Freshly grated nutmeg

Method: Shake with ice, serve over ice in a large glass or goblet, and garnish with an orange slice and cherry.

Imperial & Tonic

Ingredients:

-2 oz of Barceló Imperial 
-1 squeezed lemon
-Tonic Water (as much or as little as you would like!)
-Fruit of your choice for garnish 

Method: Just add ice, shake, and garnish!

The Elevated Piña Colada 

Ingredients:

– 2 oz Don Q Reserva 7 rum
-1/3 oz Coconut cream
-2½ oz Pineapple juice
-1 dash Angostura® bitters

Method: Shake with ice and strain over crushed ice. Garnish with a pineapple frond and orchid.

Don Q Old Fashioned – A timeless cocktail made richer with aged character.

-2 oz Don Q Gran Reserva rum
-1 sugar cube or ½ tsp sugar
-3 dashes Angostura® bitters 

Method: Muddle sugar and bitters in an Old Fashioned glass. Add ice, pour in Don Q Gran Reserva, and stir until well chilled. Garnish with orange peel and a maraschino cherry.

XENO DRIP DAIQUIRI

Ingredients: 

-2 oz Kraken Black Spiced Rum
-0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
-0.75 oz Black Sesame Syrup
-¼ tsp Black Cocoa Powder
-1 Dash Edible Glitter
-Garnish: Dehydrated Lime Wheel

Method:  In your shaker, combine Kraken Black Spiced Rum, lime juice, black sesame syrup, black cocoa powder, and edible glitter. Add ice and shake aggressively. Strain the shimmering black substance into your glass with crushed ice. Crown it with a wheel of dried lime.

PRODIGY CORP PUNCH

Ingredients: 

-2 oz Kraken Gold Spiced Rum
-0.5 oz Blue Curaçao
-0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
-1.5 oz Pineapple Juice
-1 Dash Edible Glitter
-Garnish: Dehydrated Pineapple Wheel, Dusting of Glitter

Method:  Fill a glass with ice. Pour in blue curaçao and let it settle. Add lime juice and allow it to sink through the depths. Pour in the pineapple juice infusion. Then, Release The Kraken by floating Kraken Gold Spiced Rum on top. Garnish with dehydrated pineapple wheel and a dusting of glitter. 

Spiced Kiwi Rum Mule

Ingredients:

-1 kiwi
-2 oz Koloa Kaua‘i Spiced Rum
-1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
-4 oz ginger beer
-Sprig of fresh mint

Method:Cut one slice of kiwi for garnish and set it aside, then remove the skin from the rest of the kiwi. In a cocktail shaker, thoroughly muddle the kiwi until it has released its flavorful juice. Add the rum and lime juice to the cocktail shaker and shake well with ice. Pour into a mule mug filled with ice using a fine-mesh strainer to remove the kiwi pulp.  Top off the mule with ginger beer to fill the mug, then garnish with the reserved kiwi slice and a sprig of mint.
