Spain’s Great Match – The Wines and Tastes of Spain Come to NYC

The treasured wine event of the season, “Spain’s Great Match,” was held at Mercado Little Spain by José Andrés in Hudson Yards on Tuesday, October 17. 

A Wonderful Array of Tapas 

Enthusiastic members of the press and trade filled the venue in the afternoon to “Eat & Drink Spain” and experience an abundant sampling of over 300 of the country’s wines, spirits, and lots of tasty tapas.

Throughout the day, seminars were presented by top wine professionals to educate the attendees.  They included “The Keys to Rioja: Quality, Diversity & Commitment” with Master of Wine, Peter Marks; “Beautiful Blancos” with Master of Wine, Mollie Battenhouse; and “Sketches of Spain: Spain’s Third Stream of Wine, Grapes, & Tierras” with Master Sommelier, Evan Goldstein.

These seminars by the knowledgeable professionals were deep dives into the subject matter and featured tastings of Spanish wines.

The Team Behind Tapas

While many of the wines that were featured at Spain’s Great Match are currently being distributed in the United States, the event also had a “Discovery Zone” with companies seeing importers, distributors and potential buyers. There were also live cooking demonstrations and a Mixologist led artisanal cocktail bar,
