Poet’s Corner: Eva Said

Eva Said

that when she was a young crossing guard

in Staten Island a paid job she became

a professional crossing guard after they tried her out

for a while when she was a young crossing guard

a man walked across the street in a certain way

a policeman she looked at him he looked at her

he was just crossing her street

and she married him

45 year mistake said Eva but

she’d do it again.
