It’s No Place Like Home – Part I: Outfitting the Dorm Room Bed

It’s back to school;  for some students, it’s off to college for the first time.  Do you remember your first impression of your college dorm room?  Is it really this small? How are two people supposed to fit into this room with all their stuff? Is that a…bunk bed? Good grief!

Many of us are sending our students off to college next month and we have suggestions on how to make their dorm rooms more comfortable, if not as homey as they are used to.

First, THE BED.  The typical dorm room bed is old, worn-out, a weird size (XL Twin), and probably not as clean as you’d like. But there are ways to make it more inviting. We have some ideas.

Amazon Basics 5-Piece Bed-in-a-Bag  Twin XL. This set includes sheets, pillowcases, a comforter and shams.  It’s virtually indestructible so it will stand up to the dorm washing machines – or the laundry service. $38.99

Sleep Innovations 2-inch Memory Foam Mattress Topper. Adds a layer of comfort and, let’s face it, protection to the dorm-issued mattress. $49.99

Bedsure Mattress Pad Twin XL/Twin Extra Long. Hypoallergenic – Antibacterial, Breathable – Ultra Soft Quilted Mattress Protector. Need we say more? A bargain at $18.35

Bedsure Flannel Fleece Luxury Blanket Teal Throw. Lightweight Cozy Plush Microfiber. For a touch of coziness when your student is up all night…studying.  $15.99

Bunk Buddy Bedside Shelf.  For the top-bunk dweller, this shelf provides a much needed platform for glasses, water bottle or phone. Comes in 3 colors. $28.50

Hanging Organizer Bedside Caddy provides the perfect way to keep everything close by, even a laptop. Especially good when there is no room for a bedside table. $12.99

Linenspa Foam Reading Pillow.  Perfect for the student who likes to read or study in bed. Provides more support than bed pillows, and will keep your student comfy while they burn the midnight oil. $39.99
