What to Do While You’re In-Between Jobs

Gaps in our employment history come about at the most unexpected and inopportune times and we can be left a little short during the month when they do happen. Whether you have just been made redundant or you are waiting for a new contract to begin, there are several things you can do in the meantime. Let’s take a look at some of them now.

Take Some Courses

If there is no new job on the horizon then you should work on improving your resume just as much as you should keep applying for new jobs. Take a look at your local community college to see what courses they offer. A short admin course to teach you the latest desirable computer skills might be just what you need to boost up your skillsets.

You should also have a look online to see what you can find. There are plenty of free online courses, which can give you some insight into a whole range of different topics.

Try Driving

Delivery driving is a great option if you need to generate a little extra income in this time of uncertainty. You can spend your days applying for jobs and working on your skills and then you can pick up some driving jobs in the evening.

There are many different opportunities waiting for you. You could drive people’s food around through an app like Postmates or you could choose to be a taxi service through Uber or Lyft. If you are going to go for the latter, you will need a spacious vehicle with enough seats to comfortably seat a number of passengers. The Nissan Altima is perfect for this. It looks sleek and its roomy back seat and trunk have enough room for your potential passengers and their luggage.

Find Some Freelance Work

If you have a certain way with words, you could easily make some money through copywriting online. There are many freelance sites you can sign up for where people will then approach you with a certain job. If you are bilingual, you might also be able to find some translation work thrown in there too.

This sort of freelance work is great as it can also be put around other commitments. Whether you are attending interviews or just trying to keep up with your kids’ day to day activities, this is the sort of activity which might be right for you if you are still trying to bring in a little income in-between work.

A break in employment does not have to be a negative thing and it does not need to be stressful. Take a look at your resume and think about how you can improve it to land the next job; it might be easier than you think. At the same time, you can use freelance work like that offered by Uber or copywriting to supplement your income. Before you know it, you might have another job secured and ready to start.
