The New York Press Club’s Journalism Conference Focuses on the 2024 Presidential Election

Every presidential election is important, but the 2024 one is critical. Democracy will be on the ballot. The New York Press Club Foundation’s 2023 Journalism Conference will bring together journalists who have been covering this election. You don’t have to be a member of the press to come to this informative gathering which will be hosted by Fordham Law School, 150 West 62nd Street, on Saturday, November 18. Come and have breakfast at 9 a.m. while listening to the plenary panel, “Covering the Candidates,” with MSNBC’s Jonathan Lemire and Molly Jong-Fast, WNYC’s Brigid Bergen, and Michael Calderone, editor of Vanity Fair’s “The Hive.” You watch them on TV and read them online. Now is the chance to have a front seat at this discussion and ask questions of these knowledgeable journalists.

During the luncheon, the keynote speaker Andrew Hayward, former CBS News president and co-author of Beyond Objectivity, the new playbook for strengthening and transforming journalism, will have a conversation with Nayeema Plaza, co-host of New York Magazines’s ON podcast with Kara Swisher. Is it possible for members of the press to remain objective when covering some of the candidates, particularly former President Donald Trump, and others who still claim the 2020 election was stolen? This promises to be a lively discussion.

Between the opening session and the luncheon, participants can attend one of several breakout sessions. They include:

Future of Artificial Intelligence: What’s Next? – AI is already in the newsroom but will robot reports replace us?  How can reporters use AI to their advantage?

Covering Climate – Are newsrooms missing the hottest story? How to cover climate change and its impact on every story in a way that both informs and engages the public.

Entertainment Beat – What it takes to be a star covering the stars. Our panel of entertainment journalists from across all media will share their tips and stories.

Navigating the Courts: Rules, Regulations, and Crossing the Line  – Learn the do’s and don’ts about the court beat and reporting on cases.

You don’t want to miss this important event. At an affordable $25 per ticket, which includes breakfast, lunch, and important and engaging discussions, it’s money well spent. For more information and to register, go to the New York Press Club’s website.
