04/10/2016

April is National Poetry Month. If you’ve ever wanted to write a poem, but don’t know how to get started, Esther Cohen tells how. Esther posts a poem a day on her blog. You can also go to the website for National Poetry Month.

How to Write a Poem

If You Want To

 Sit down

anywhere.

Poems

happen

standing

up but

sitting down’s

easier.

One

good

word

a way

to begin.

Lesson One

You can

start here

or over there.

First words matter.

Start better

than begin.

Where

you go

up to you.

Try to go

where you can

find your best poem

Lesson 2

You want

to write.

Just

sit right there.

Don’t move.

Then write

a word or two

right down.

Lesson 3

Some days

no poems.

Just wait.
