What To Do on a Day Trip to London

London is one of the great British days out. People travel from all over the country to experience the buzz and excitement that’s present throughout the year. Whether you’re travelling from Brighton on the train or by car from elsewhere in the country, here are a few suggestions on what to do during your day trip.

Experience London’s main attractions

On any trip to the capital, the headline attractions have to be in contention for a place on your itinerary. Even if you’ve seen them already, they’re always a sight to behold.

The London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Tower of London and Big Ben are some of the most famous tourist hotspots. The good news is that they’re all relatively close to each other, so you can do a whistle-stop tour on a day trip.

Dive into London’s markets

If you’re looking to have a different kind of experience, London’s markets give you a flavour of life for all sorts of people. It’s one way to truly immerse yourself in the culture and get a feel for life as a Londoner.

One of the oldest is Borough Market, which has a history spanning over 1,000 years and is a great place for food and cooking lovers. Elsewhere, Camden Market is the centre of London’s vintage revolution with hundreds of market stalls selling fashion items, food and drink, and arts and crafts.

Walk through London’s parks

Despite its metropolitan landscape, the capital isn’t short of natural, green spaces. Its parks offer a pleasant contrast to the busy streets and pavements surrounding them. You can so easily get lost in the tranquil atmosphere if you’re a nature lover.

Among the most famous are Hyde Park, which backs onto Kensington Gardens and Buckingham Palace, and Regent’s Park, not far from Euston station. Kew Gardens, also known as the Royal Botanic Gardens, is home to one of the most diverse collections of plant life anywhere in the world and just 30 minutes outside of Central London.

Immerse yourself in London’s museums and galleries

If you’re in London for some cultural awakening, look no further than the city’s museums, galleries and street art. The capital has some of the most extensive collections of natural, human and scientific history, as well as world-famous galleries.

The Natural History Museum and British Museum are great fun for all the family. If you’re looking to gaze upon stunning artwork, the National Gallery houses works from the likes of Botticelli, Van Gogh and Turner. If you’re a book lover, explore the depths of the British Library.

There’s plenty to see and do in London whenever or wherever you’re visiting. Be sure to book tickets and travel in advance to avoid disappointment. And bring a brolly because you never know what the weather might provide!
